WHAT IS CLAT EXAM?

A career in law opens door to endless opportunities from courtrooms to corporate offices but to enter this world, every aspiring lawyer must pass through one major gateway: the CLAT exam.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted to provide admissions to candidates in undergraduate Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) and postgraduate Legum Magister (LLB) programs offered across the country. It is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). CLAT Exam is a tough yet manageable exam as the increase in number of candidates appearing for the exam and fighting for limited number of seats in NLUs. It’sscore is accepted not only by 24 National Law Universities but also by many private universities and Public Sector Undertakings for admission.

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT Exam?

To appear for the CLAT Exam 2026, candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements set by Consortium of NLUs-

For Undergraduate (UG-BA LLB):

  •  Must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board.
  • Minimum 45% marks (General/OBC category) or 40% marks (SC/ST category).
  • No age limit for appearing in the exam.

For Postgraduate (PG-LLM):

  • Must hold an LLB degree from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 50% marks (General/OBC) or 45% marks(SC/ST category).

CLAT 2026Registration process and exam date-

Registration process-

·       Mode: Online via consortiumofnlus.ac.in

·       Steps: Fill the form with details, upload the photograph and signature, pay the registration amount, submit and download confirmation.

Exam Date-

·       Expected date: December 2025

·       Mode: Offline(Pen and Paper)

·       Duration: 2 hours

·       Admit Card: Released 2-3weeks before the exam.

CLAT Exam 2026 Mode of conduct-

·       The CLAT Exam 2026 will be conducted in offline mode across multiple exam centers in India.

·       Candidates will be required to mark their answers on an OMR sheet using a black ballpoint pen.

·       The duration of the exam is 2 hour.

CLAT EXAMINATION PATTERN-

·       The CLAT 2026 exam will have 120 multiple-choice questions, and you,ll have 2 hours to solve your paper.

·       The test will be dividedin five sections- English Language, Current Affairs (this will include General Knowledge), Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

·       For every correct answer, candidate will be given 1 marks. There won’t be a negative marking in English Language, Current Affairs/General Knowledge, and Legal Reasoning sections, but there will be deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer in the Quantitative Techniques and Logical Reasoning sections.

CLAT SYLLABUS-

·       English Language: Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence improvement, and para jumbles.

·       Current Affairs: Recent events, history, Indian economy, international relations, constitution, arts, and culture.
