I get about 30-40 messages everyday here and almost 60% of the times, it's about my profile, "business analyst". I already have a post on the same topic, but I thought it would be helpful to add more content based on the questions I have received so far. I am really really sorry if I have missed your message on this topic, after a point, I lost track of the messages.

I have put in a lot of time to gather information and pen this down, so I really hope it's useful.

Analytics Profile -Analytics is a process that enables us to take data driven decisions to improve our business performance.

I work with the Business analytics team but there can be various domains within analytics depending upon the requirements of the business. Here are few –

1. Business analytics that covers KPI's (KeyPerformance Indicators) like sales volume, revenue, user churn etc

2. Marketing analytics that takes care of managing and tracking the performance of different marketing campaigns to optimize the ROI (return on investment)

3. Product analytics that enables the business to understand their different products and improve customer experience

4. Risk analytics that makes sure the integrity of the company is maintained by mitigating possible risk sources and corresponding losses.

Where to start ?

You could be interested in any of the above domains, but the basic skill set for an analyst profile is the same across all the domains. Only the business context and metrics change between all of them

1. For a beginner, it's important to have some knowledge on statistics. You can check out this course

2. When you're done with statistics, you need to improve your knowledge on other analytical and data science techniques, for which there is a website called 'Analytics Vidhya' and it's quite useful

3. When you're done equipping yourself with theoretical concepts, use Kaggle datasets to apply them.
